Mangrove Forest: Short Weekend Getaway in Jakarta

Traveling has become new trend for millennials. For me, seeking for entertainment or traveling is a way to keep myself productive. It does not have to be travelling out of city every weekend because I am a simple person (read: budget matter).

Few months ago, I visited mangrove forest in Angke. It took less than an hour by motorcycle from Jakarta Pusat. Some people got there by Transjakarta or angkot. Before getting into the forest, I pass through mall and shops area so I decided to take a lunch there.
When I said 'forest', it was not as creepy as it is called. The pavement was neat so visitors can have a comfortable walk. The parking lot was well-ordered for cars and motorcycles. The ticket box is next to the parking area. They charged IDR 25000 for adults, cheaper tickets for kids and more expensive for foreigners. Not too far away from the parking area, I can see a mosque standing above the water. Walking a bit further inside, I found food court. But I decided to take a walk since I have had a lunch before. Leaving the food court, I saw some tiny houses around a field.

Walking away from land area, I arrived at the mangrove forest. The forest management built pavement out of bamboos. In the forest, there are some other tiny houses built above the water. I found information on another web that the management rents these houses.
I don’t recommend wearing high heels while visiting this forest. Except you have photo-shoot or pre-wedding event. Yes, it was allowed to bring your professional cameras into the area. But you have to pay more than just an entry ticket. I can say that the view was very picturesque as if it was in another world. It was worth to be shown in social media.

If walking and staring at the view are not enough, there are boats that can be rented to explore the mangrove sea. For me, I chose to keep walking to another part of the forest. There were parts of the forest that was functioned as seeding area. People can buy the seed and plant it then put their name in the tree.
It was a long walk so I decided to go to food court and bought some fresh green coconuts and enjoyed them. As the sun went down, I walked out of the forest and went back home.
