EPISODE 9 (Brilliant Shards / angel's share)
---SPOILER AHEAD---
Vincent wakes up
in Asura, the land where the sun calls home. Asura and Charos are connected
because they
are managed by a pair of proxy who loves each other. Vincent sees the
projection of Asura through tower screen projection. It displays a used to be advanced
city. Vincent is brought there by the proxy of Asura, Kazkis Hauer. He welcomes
and offers luxurious meals to Vincent and Pino. But Pino
seems to be reluctant and afraid of Kazkis. Kazkis calls Vincent as a friend.
He knows Vincent is a proxy, but does not know
that Vincent lost his memory.
Pino finds
knight autoreivs that attacked Charos and tells Vincent. She asks Vincent to
leave. Vincent is probably glad he finds another human company as polite as
Kazkis. He does not follow Pino’s request. Pino leaves Vincent.
Vincent and
Kazkis are having dinner together. Vincent does not feel anxious or dizzy around Kazkis like when he was near Senex because Kazkis presents himself in human form. Kazkis drinks a lot of wine,
but it does not affect him. Kazkis and Senex love each other as counterparts. They gave up managing their domes and
hibernated because they realize their creations fail. He explains to Vincent
that he (and Senex) kills Charos people because they have lost their way during
Senex long sleep. He harbors the same reason
for wiping out his own human.
Kazkis, Ergo/Vincent
(before memory lost) and other proxies share mutual
grief of their creation. They are ashamed that the
pseudo human is
sterile and they cannot do anything about it. Kazkis and Senex built two towers
to witness them exchanging vows when the pulse of awakening wakes
them up from their long sleep. Kazkis is bitter
finding Senex is death, but he is willing to take Vincent as a counterpart. He cannot stand being alone. He always needs someone to stay beside
him.
Kazkis realizes something is off when Vincent does not admit murdering Senex. Kazkis gets angry when he realizes Senex dies for nothing. Vincent sees the true Asura, a dead city with no human. Kazkis tries to provoke Vincent’s memory. He knows Vincent intentionally erased his memory and transferred it to Monad. He correctly deduces Monad could not handle it, but took it anyway because she loves Vincent/Ergo. Monad then lost her sanity.
Kazkis rages
knowing Vincent shamefully ran away from his duties as a proxy and erased his
memory. Moreover,
he is angry Vincent killed his love, Senex. Kazkis reveals his proxy form, the
agent of light/brilliance. Vincent starts to feel dizzy as Kazkis turns to proxy form. He attacks Vincent and
activates the knights. Vincent transforms into Ergo and blasts all the knights.
Ergo/Vincent is confused of his own shift and runs away
from Kazkis.
Vincent comes back to Kazkis. Kazkis thinks that Vincent comes to seek death after hearing the pulse of awakening. Vincent realizes he is a proxy and killed Monad. Vincent/Ergo weeps when he fatally stabs Kazkis. Vincent does not want to kill or fight, but the awakening pushes him. Vincent recalls that he is Ergo proxy, the agent of death. Kazkis dies in his own fire and unites with Senex (or maybe it’s his imagination). He wanted to see Senex one last time before the proxy doomsday. But Ergo/Vincent has killed her before.
Pino finds the Rabbit and counts to wait Vincent. She counts to 400 rabbits when she wakes up and sees Vincent driving the Rabbit. Pino has long known that Vincent is a proxy. She probably saw Vincent shifted to Ergo in Romdeau vent plug.
Kazkis explains that proxies are his friend. Proxies are people who knows the far corner of the world. Probably before the pulse of awakening, proxies could explore the world, then found other proxies and knew each other. This is why Kazkis knows Monad and how Ergo met Monad. Proxies are naturally not aggressive like animals. The pulse of awakening makes them go berserk and attack each other. This is supported by Will B. Good’s statement in the next episode.
Kazkis calls Vincent as an aid and thanks for his power because he seeks death after feeling the pulse of awakening.
As the agent of light, Kazkis is capable to produce fire and shoots light. No other proxy is seen to have this ability. Kazkis also demonstrates that he can control knight autoreivs without touching them. These autoreivs are not infected.
Kazkis royal behavior represents himself as the agent of brilliance. He has a soothing voice and speaks in good words. He is proud, intelligent, honored, polite, well-mannered and cultured. He lives in a classic decorated place and owns knights. He is figuratively a king. He despises the idea of war, which ironically become his creation’s raison d’etre.
Although he is figuratively a king, he wears humble clothes. His outside appearance is a contrast of his feeling inside. He roughly throws glasses, burns everything, appreciates destruction, immediately intends to kill Vincent and suffers being a proxy.
Kazkis contrary is represented in the Asura tower hologram. It displays a high tech city while in reality, it is rotten dark ruins. Kazkis shows his true nature when the hologram changes display.
- Kazkis dies of heart stabbing inflicted by Ergo/Vincent. It is not likely if flame can scratch proxy (Why does Kazkis bother to shoot fire to Ergo/Vincent if it will not kill him?). There are two confirm methods to kill proxy: vital organ destruction and sunlight.
