ERGO PROXY EPISODE 4: PLOT AND EXPLANATION

EPISODE 4 (SIGNS O FUTURE, HADES OF FUTURE / FUTU-RISK)

---SPOILER AHEAD---

The route has a shape of Autoreiv. It only has one way out.

Vincent falls under water below a ship. He is saved and treated by Hoody. Vincent catches fever for ten days and has nightmares/flashback. Vincent is recovering and gains his consciousness. 80% People who get out of the Romdeau dome will die because of air poisoning. But Vincent survived the fall of remarkable height and toxic air. He then realized he is in Commune, a lowlife village outside the Romdeau dome. He is surprised that there is life outside the dome.

Re-l investigates Vincent’s apartment and finds infected autoreivs escape route. Iggy is seized from her because of her nosy action. Re-l follows the route and finds Monad dead body. Of course it was Vincent/Ergo who killed her. She asks Daedalus to examine the corpse and keep it as their secret.

The Commune people make their living by scraping Romdeau trash which is thrown outside the dome. These people are former citizens who leave or get exiled from Romdeau. Most of them want to go back even though they don’t admit it. The can live around the dome because the dome produces heat. Farther away from the dome, the weather is as cold as tundra thus makes living hard.

Vincent now knows the truth and lies of Romdeau. Although being gloomy, he rejects Romdeau. Vincent meets Quinn who states that she wants to be independent and stops being Romdeau parasite. While Vincent talks with Quinn, an unmanned patrol aircraft approaches. Vincent once again saves Pino from her carelessness by shooting the aircraft down. Raul finds that Vincent is still alive from the aircraft camera.

Details and Easter Eggs:

  • The bottom of the ship in the opening scene is the 400 Rabbits / Centzon which Hoody hides.
  • Hoody is reading poems beside Vincent. The poems foreshadow Vincent’s incoming character development.
  • The cereal is spelled misfit. Probably means that Vincent will never fit into society like Romdeau.
  • The earth is healing. The water flows, there are organisms living outside the dome (ex: caterpillar which is seen by Pino) and people can live outside the dome.
  • Pino, even though still moves robotically, truly acts like a human child. She is careless, curious, easily fascinated and copying people around her.
  • Two mugs on Vincent’s bed indicate he has two personalities. The may refer to his human and Ergo personalities. They may also indicate that he hides his true (human) personality to become a fellow citizen. He says that he kills his personality in the previous episode. In the next episodes, we will find that Vincent is actually strong willed and not as obedient as he seems to be. His smirk signs his satisfaction for rebelling towards Romdeau.
