ERGO PROXY EPISODE 16: PLOT AND EXPLANATION

EPISODE 16 (DEAD CALM / BUSY DOING NOTHING)

---SPOILER AHEAD---

The Rabbit cannot move because there is no wind. The trio is stranded in a waste land. Re-l tries to get rid of her boredom by analyzing Vincent and Pino. She refers them as the proxy and the autoreiv. Her analysis leads her to nothing. While Re-l is stressed by their situation, Vincent and Pino prefer to take it easy. There is nothing they can do anyway.

The episode shows some more of Vincent characteristics. He is sometimes sloppy, ignorant, but a gentleman. Vincent is clean and tidy, but does not give much attention to his appearance. He calculates the expense and disciplines himself. He is compromised towards Re-l‘s demands and complaints.

Re-l characteristics are much contrast compared to Vincent. Re-l is very analytical shown in her diary and monologue. She is demanding and does not negotiate much. She is very punctual and restless. She cannot cook, not even pasta. Apparently, she never cleans the Rabbit. Re-l will not start her day without her full make-up on even though there is no one to impress. Re-l does not have an OC D (she does not clean the fallen pasta properly and leaves the make-up opened) but is easily irritated when Vincent does not do something her way. Re-l has these characteristic because of her background as an elite society member.

Re-l cannot enjoy little things like Vincent and Pino. Her paranoia makes her think that there is an invisible wall that separates her from them. It is actually herself who makes the wall.

Pino acts like a balancer for Vincent and Pino. She enjoys playing and relaxing with Vincent. She points out Re-l’s nagging by imitating her worrying about acne and scolding Vincent. She does those out of her innocence.

Re-l gives up her own prison and joins Vincent and Pino’s way. She sleeps beside Pino, who is hibernating and charging up. She has her best sleep there. She compromises the food. She lets her face naked and messy. She enjoys the aurora. She challenges the wind like Vincent. She now understands the need to relax, enjoy the little things and having fun. Her diary pages fly away symbolizes Re-l lets herself go.

The wind finally comes back and the trio continues the journey.

Details and Easter Eggs:

  • The whole episode is a comedy. It is comical how Re-l delivering deep and analytical inner monologues while they are just doing regular daily activities.
