ERGO PROXY EPISODE 10: PLOT AND EXPLANATION

 

EPISODE 10 (EXISTENCE / CYTOTROPISM)

Daedalus is stripped from his position as Health and Welfare Bureau Director because he lost his function as a citizen. He has to pretend to be null because he lost his raison d’etre, Monad and Re-l Mayer. The Security Bureau seizes Monad remains. Daedalus is detained in his office.

Raul gets scolded again by the Collective because of the proxy matter. Raul’s consultation with the Collective implies that it was the Regent who tried to kill Re-l. The Regent threatens that he can die the same way as Re-l (if he leaves the dome or does not his job correctly). Raul expresses his anger on the bathroom mirror and injures his hand.

Daedalus causes power down in the entire Romdeau for preparing a couple dozen of FP bullet which contains sun ray. He gives two FP bullets to Re-l to kill proxy if she is in danger. Raul correctly concludes that the power shortage is caused by Daedalus even though he doesn’t know the cause. Raul misleads the Regent by reporting it as an immigrant terrorist attack. Daedalus confronts Raul for Re-l murder attempt. Raul confronts him back for hiding the facts that there were two proxies in Romdeau and hiding Re-l.

Raul admits that it is not him who tries to kill Re-l but the Regent. Daedalus tells that he causes power down because he wants to revive Monad. Raul commands Daedalus to work under Raul’s supervision. He gives Monad remains back. Raul thinks that reviving proxy will save Romdeau but actually Daedalus has his own agenda.

Daedalus fakes Re-l’s death certificate after the autoreiv attack. He supports Re-l to go outside because he wants another proxy. Re-l dreams about her younger self. She was a carefree child, very different from her current character. Her dream expresses her fear going outside, but also the pull to find the truth or Vincent.

Re-l left Romdeau. She arrives at en empty dome city. The city looks retro with primitive autoreivs. No living human is seen. The proxy of the dome probably died or left, thus its citizens also died. From the autoreiv type and the graveyard, it has been a long time since the dome is maintained. The autoreivs still do their job following their raison d’etre, to maintain the city. The city is the result space human expects to find when they get back to earth. The autoreivs stop their work. They are infected with the Cogito virus by Iggy.

Details and Easter Eggs:

• The dome’s magnetic system and life support start to diminish by the dead of Monad and the pullout of Vincent and proxy One. It implies that proxy is not only life bearer, but also the power of dome life support.

• Raul correctly concludes that Daedalus causes the power down. Daedalus’ citizen number is 021723. He shuts the power down for exactly 2 minutes 17.23 seconds. He leaves the clue to invite Raul.

• The Regent lets Re-l back to Romdeau because she is bait for Ergo/Vincent. He then tries to kill her after Re-l learns about the livable outside world and pokes him about it. Moreover, she broke the Regent dictatorship law.

• Re-l, a homophone of real, is named as such because she is designed to be a realist. It will help her raison d’etre and her job as an Intelligence Bureau agent.

• Raul’s guess is right that Daedalus cannot protect or control Re-l once she goes outside. This is the point where Daedalus needs to create another Re-l.

• Cytotropism means the movement of cells in response to an external stimulus. Everybody in this episode pursues their own agendas: Re-l pursues Vincent, Raul becomes more independent and Daedalus with his Re-l obsession.
